Last Friday, I read an interesting news:(Reuters) Friday, Jan. 14, 2011 – ” News Corp and Apple Inc are delaying the launch of the media conglomerate’s digital newspaper for the iPad, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter”.
The interesting part of this news is not the delay of the launch, but the concept of a digital newspaper for the iPad.
This is a joint project between Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch to unveil a new digital “newspaper”. Rupert Murdoch is the head of the media giant News Corp, and Steve Jobs, the chief executive of Apple.
Evan Selleck from everythingipad.com, earlier on wrote “when people think of the iPad, and even the iPhone or iPod Touch, they think of media consumption”.
Media consumption?
Selleck explains “these device, and probably even more so the iPad, are explicitly designed for you to consume all sorts of media, in every way shape or form”.
No matter of what will happen to this project, the interesting point here is that the focus is on technology, and how technology may change (again) the rules of the game. The result is the ambiguity and resistance of the main producers of news, and the new opportunities which open up for the less mainstream players.
